Hundreds will gather for a strike kickoff rally at 12pm on Red Square.

2,400 UW Postdoctoral Researchers and Research Scientists/Engineers (RSEs) at the University of Washington are on strike after not reaching agreement with UW administration in bargaining. They will head to the picket lines beginning at 5am. Hundreds will gather Wednesday for a strike kickoff rally at 12pm on Red Square. Press are encouraged to attend.

Thanks to the active participation of members throughout the region, the past month has been full of action to make progress in bargaining, new organizing drives, political fights, and more. In the coming months, a large number of Locals and organizing campaigns in the Region will be going into bargaining, in addition to those who are currently bargaining.

Last weekend, members from across Region 6 came together for a conference on gender, race, & immigrant justice, An Injury to One Is an Injury to All. Together, we discussed how to make Region 6 an engine for social justice, including by strategizing around coordinated contract campaigns, community fights, political action & more. And in workshops, members built skills in key areas for growing a fighting, inclusive union:

In the past month, active and retired UAW members have been taking action to build worker power across Region 6. Thanks to thousands of members coming together and participating at every level of the union, together we’ve made major progress in new organizing, ramped up pressure in bargaining, won huge legislative victories, and built stronger connections and solidarity with our broader communities.
